The Mayor's Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board was established by Mayor Vince Evans to focus on better connecting the city government with its constituents by way of three tenets: communication, unity champions and feedback.

Diversity is defined as the entire range of human differences that includes, but is not limited to: race, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, age, socioeconomic status, religious affiliation and national origin.

Inclusion puts the concept of diversity into action by creating an environment of involvement, respect and unity.

Communication

  • The Mayor's Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board will serve as a resource for city government and the community by providing information and communication that better facilitates understanding and celebrates the differences of its constituents.
  • Promote two-way communication between the city government and the community.

Unity Champions

  • Engage the community as unity champions to solicit feedback and information, which, in turn, will be shared with city leadership and staff.
  • Assist the city in supporting and working with all areas of government and the community to eliminate and prevent all forms of discrimination, hate and bias.

 Feedback

  • Provide information to the mayor and council that would identify opportunities to address issues of diversity, promote unity and collaboration programs, and/or provide guidance to create a more equitable, accessible, safe, welcoming and inclusive government and community.
  • Advise the mayor and council on best practices for conducting outreach to a diverse community.

Board members appointed by Mayor Evans to serve are: Muddessar Ahmad, Jennifer Baker, Cheryl Board, Thomas Dean, Rebecca Gibbons, Ronnie Godwin, Justin Kenney, Gracie Kirkland, and Yvette Morton Williams. Casey Duren, director of Human Resources, serves as staff liaison to the board. For more information, contact Mr. Duren at 770-929-0453 or email inclusion@conyersga.gov.

Advisory Board meetings are the second Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at Conyers City Hall. The public is invited to attend.
