Get outside and go WILD at the Third Annual Big Haynes Creek Wildlife Festival held on the Grand Prix Plaza at the Georgia International Horse Park! The festival is scheduled for August 29-30, 2009 and will be open to the public from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. each day.
The admission fee is $5.00 per person (children ages 4 and under are free) and tickets can be purchased at the gate. A $2.00 off admission coupon is available! Parking is free. No pets, please.
The Wildlife Festival promotes understanding and enjoyment of the outdoors while featuring animal exhibits, guest speakers, hands-on demonstrations, children's activities, stage performances, arts and crafts.
Everyone can find a way to get WILD with lots of fun activities for the entire family. Highlights of the Wildlife Festival include:
- See Steve Scruggs, the Snake Master, with poisonous snakes on the main stage. Scruggs has been featured in Field and Stream Magazine.
- See Jason Clark with Southeastern Reptile Rescue recount his wild and crazy adventures during wildlife removals throughout the southeast. Southeastern Reptile Rescue has been featured on Animal Planet.
- Learn the basics of fly-fishing and archery at the hdands-on exhibits provided by Venture Outdoors.
- See large, native birds dive to retrieve their prey at the Birds of Prey show in the Grand Prix Arena.
- See how Creek and Cherokee Indians lived off the land and how the influence of early settlers changed their lives in the Living History Section
- Get up close to all types of animals at the Wildlife Wonders show and display. Wildlife Wonders has been seen on The Discovery Channel.
- Listen to Native American stories told by educator Carol Brown (Saturday only).
- Visit the A.W.A.R.E. display to view animals from Panola Mountain State Park.
- Learn what animals make certain tracks at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's "Animal Track and Identification" activity.
- Shop among arts and crafts showcasing painters, potters, photographers, quilters and more in the artist market
- Mine for gemstones and fossils at the Carolina Gold Rush Mining Adventure (additional charges apply).
- Buy or swap your used fishing, hunting, camping and other outdoor gear at the Outdoor Sale and Swap. To purchase a booth within the Outdoor Sale and Swap, contact Rebecca Hill at 770-860-4188 or rebecca.hill@conyersga.com.
- Enjoy lots of great entertainment by local bands, cloggers and dance groups.
- Learn about the bugs of Rockdale County at the Rockdale County Master Gardeners display
- Kids can explore their creative side at the kid's art and craft tent provided by Stone Mountain Ministries
- Help plant new wildflowers in the Big Haynes Creek Nature Center by making wildflower seedballs during the festival. These will later be planted throughout areas of the nature center.
- Learn about responsible dog ownership and different breeds of dogs at the Conyers Kennel Club demonstration and "Meet the Breed" stage show.
- Enjoy pony rides and jump on the Euro-bungee (additional charges apply) or eat a snack at one of the tantalizing food booths
- Children of all ages can ride on the miniature outdoor railroad provided by the North Georgia Live Steamers
- Be sure to purchase a festival T-shirt as a souvenir!

Directions to the Georgia International Horse Park and Big Haynes Creek Wildlife Festival:
Take Exit 82 off Interstate 20 in Conyers. Travel North approximately 4 miles. Turn right onto Centennial Olympic Parkway. The main entrance to the Park is 2 miles ahead on the right.
An alternative route to the Park is via Salem Road (Exit 84) off Interstate 20. Take Exit 84 and travel North approximately 1 mile. At Gees Mill Road, turn right and the Georgia International Horse Park Gate A is 2.5 miles on the right. To continue to the main gate (Gate C), continue past Gate A and turn right at the stop sign onto Centennial Olympic Parkway. The main entrance will be on your right.
