City of Conyers Main Street Program

The City of Conyers, Georgia was named an official Main Street City by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) in May, 2007.  The Georgia Department of Community Affairs focuses on economic development through downtown revitalization, heritage preservation and restoring a sense of place.  The Classic Main Street Program and the Better Hometown Program (Georgia's small-town Main Street Program for cities with a population less than 5,000) are self-help community development programs designed to improve a downtown's quality of life and build a stronger local economy through the revitalization of the downtown area.

The Main Street Approach to Downtown Revitalization is based on integrating four points into a practical downtown management strategy.  The four points are:

  • Community Outreach (building a framework that is well represented by business and property owners in the area)
  • Promotion (creating excitement and events that generate traffic and marketing opportunities in the downtown area)
  • Design (enhancing the attractiveness of the business district through building rehabilitation, clean-up, landscaping, etc.)
  • Economic Restructuring (recruiting new businesses, creatively converting unused space for new uses in the downtown area)

Main Street...Conyers Style

The Conyers Main Street Program is managed by Main Street Manager Monica Coffin.  Ms. Coffin reports to the Main Street Board consisting of members Dr. John Fountain (Chairman), Daniel S. Digby (Vice-Chairman), Susan Vaughn (Secretary), Marty Jones, Ashley Frey, Renee Marrett and Jorge Flores.

The Main Street Board meets the first Tuesday of each month in the City Manager's Office at City Hall at 7:00 p.m.  The four committees (Organization, Promotion, Design and Economic Development) meet on a monthly basis at various dates and times.

If you are interested in learning more about the Conyers Main Street Program or want to volunteer for a committee, contact Monica Coffin at 770-929-4239 or at monica.coffin@conyersga.com.
